Old Fashioned Cocktail
A Bourbon Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail made with bourbon, sugar, bitters, and a twist of citrus. It is typically served on the rocks and garnished with a cherry and orange peel. The sugar and bitters are muddled together to create a sweet and bitter base, which is then combined with bourbon and ice. It's a timeless cocktail perfect for sipping on a cozy evening with friends and family.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Start by placing a sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass. If you prefer, you can use simple syrup as a sweetener instead of a sugar cube.
- Add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters directly onto the sugar cube. If you're using simple syrup, you can add the bitters directly to the syrup.
- Muddle the sugar cube with the bitters using a muddler. If you're using simple syrup, you can skip this step.
- Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of your preferred bourbon whiskey into the glass.
- Stir the mixture well to ensure the sugar is dissolved and the flavors are combined. Use a bar spoon for this.
- Add a few large ice cubes to the glass. The large ice cubes will help to chill the drink without diluting it too quickly.
- Hold a piece of orange peel over the glass and express the oils by twisting it. You can either drop the peel into the drink or use it as a garnish on the rim of the glass.
- If desired, you can garnish the cocktail with a cherry. A traditional Maraschino cherry works well.
