Manhattan Cocktail

The Manhattan cocktail is a classic cocktail that originated in the late 1800s in New York City. It is typically made with rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters, and garnished with a cherry. The drink is known for its bold and complex flavors and is often enjoyed as an after-dinner drink or a sophisticated cocktail for special occasions. It has remained a popular cocktail for over a century and is favored by cocktail enthusiasts around the world.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Start by chilling the glass you will be serving the cocktail in. Place your serving glass (usually a martini or rocks glass) in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Fill a mixing glass with ice. This is where you'll mix and chill your ingredients.
  3. Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of Bourbon whiskey into the mixing glass.
  4. Add 1 oz (30 ml) of sweet vermouth to the mixing glass.
  5. Add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters to the mix. Adjust according to your taste preferences.
  6. Stir the mixture well with a bar spoon for about 15-20 seconds. Some people prefer to shake their Manhattans, but stirring is the traditional method.
  7. Discard the ice from your chilled glass and strain the mixed ingredients into it.
  8. Garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry. You can drop it into the glass or skewer it on a cocktail pick.

Notes

Some variations of the Manhattan call for a lemon twist instead of a cherry garnish. Feel free to experiment with different garnishes based on your preference. Remember, the quality of your ingredients, especially the Bourbon, will significantly impact the final taste of your Manhattan. Cheers!
